Meeting / Luncheon

Thursday, August 28, 2014
Methodist Hospital
Arcadia, CA
11:30 am – 1:30 pm

Speaker:  Alice L. Ferris, GoalBusters
Topic:  “Maximizing Board Success in Fundraising”

Even though both staff and volunteers know that the board of directors is a critical part of fundraising, often the relationship is frustrating, on both sides. Board members wonder, “I thought we hired someone to do this! How can I preserve my friendships and still ask for money? I don’t know how to do this in my free time!” Fundraising professionals gripe, “My board doesn’t take responsibility for fundraising! I can’t do it all! All I’m asking is for them to talk with someone. Is that so hard?”

In this talk, we’ll discuss the changing nature and perceptions of the board’s role in fundraising, identify gaps in expectations between board members, fundraising professionals, and other senior leadership, and provide tools to optimize the effectiveness of your board members and highlight their strengths in the fundraising process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify changing expectations for roles in fundraising
  • Evaluate skills that board members provide to the organization to optimize their effectiveness
  • Identify strategies to improve board member participation in the fundraising process
