Owning Our Fundraising Stories
Empowering Authentic Narratives through Mindset & Methods

Have you ever considered that your story and the story of your organization intersects with your donor’s story and the story of the world? What if we told you that the power of story resides in its inherent healing capacity? That as a mindset and a method, storytelling can chip away at the barriers to fundraising success, inspire connection and collaboration, and activate interest and investment? What if we showed you that everyone is a storyteller, that it’s in our DNA, and as a practice can enable us to mobilize philanthropic support for the betterment of humanity?

In this interactive presentation we will demystify the role storytelling plays in health care fundraising and our profession at large. We will root the conversation in storytelling research, introduce concepts like the “co-creation” and “the authentic ask,” and discuss specific ways in which owning our fundraising stories can strengthen our case, inform our daily work, and amplify our impact.

Jennifer Harris founded JH Collective, Inc. in 2011 with a passion to serve individuals, organizations, and communities by bringing inspired ideas and shared values to life. A graduate of University of Chicago’s Master of the Arts Program in the Humanities and UC Davis’s undergraduate program in English and Creative Writing, she has spent almost two decades working through the fundraising pyramid in the nonprofit sector and in academic advancement (from annual fund to major and principal gifts to capital campaign and leadership initiatives). A seasoned fundraiser and development communicator, Jennifer has built a portfolio of clients that possess interrelated, short and long-term needs such as fundraising, strategic planning, and communications coaching and services.
