2018 Outstanding Leadership Award Recipient
Mike Driebe, MSLM, CFRE
Methodist Hospital Foundation
Mike Driebe has contributed many years of volunteer work and expertise to advance healthcare philanthropy both at his organization and by serving as a board member of his professional organizations: SCAHD and AFP.
During more than 20 years’ professional experience in fund development, Mike has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his role managing the philanthropic efforts at three nonprofit institutions and in the healthcare philanthropy industry. He has also served in a variety of volunteer leadership roles with several nonprofit organizations over the past 31 years. Mike is dedicated to the high professional standards and adherence to the ethics of healthcare philanthropy organizations as well as his advocation and support of professional growth among his staff and other members of SCAHD.
As President of the Methodist Hospital Foundation for nearly 9 years, Mike oversees all elements of a robust fund development program in support of Methodist Hospital of Southern California, including Annual Giving, Special Events, Major Giving, Planned Giving, Foundation and Corporate Giving, Data Management, Donor Recognition, and Community Outreach, especially to the Asian and Latino communities. To his credit, this Foundation has raised more than $35 million under Mike’s leadership to fund advancements and program needs in the cardiac and stroke programs, emergency services, NICU, woman’s services, and nursing education, to name just a few.
Mike is a great role model to young professionals in our industry and advocates for training and career development in his staff. He is transparent in sharing his thoughts and reasoning with staff on key business decisions thereby educating them on the best practices and ethics in the field. And it is not just his staff…he is generous with his time when a colleague in the field asks for his guidance or mentoring. As a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), he applies his training in the planning and execution of the foundation’s philanthropic program. Mike holds a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from Indiana University and earned a Master of Science degree in Leadership and Management from the University of La Verne with concentrations in Strategic Planning and Non-Profit Management.
